The Airman and Family Readiness Center offers a variety of classes and resources to help the Pope AFB community
meet their financial goals. Classes can also be customized to meet the specific needs of a
customer or a squadron.
Emergency Assistance
Emergency Food Vouchers are provided to families in a short-term financial hardship and unable to purchase food. Members may self-refer for this assistance. Call 394-2538 for assistance. Inquiries may be made about interest-free loans from the Air Force Aid Society.
Preventative Financial Services
“Bundles for Babies” - Expectant parents in the third trimester are given information on budgeting,
choosing a child care provider and handling stress. A bundle of items are given for the baby and
refreshments are provided. Classes are offered every other month and all ranks are welcome.
Dorm Outreach – A&FRC staff will visit the dorms quarterly to provide food and information to young airmen
regarding financial programs at the A&FRF.
Financial Management for FTAC - mandatory for first duty station personnel. Held every other week and
includes instruction on reading the LES, budgeting, credit and account management.
Individual Financial Counseling – A&FRC staff will meet with individuals privately to help them formulate
budgets, develop a plan to meet financial goals, and assist with any other financial concerns members may have.
Budgeting 101 Class - offered every other month, this class provides participants with a fundamental
understanding of budgeting and the skills needed to develop a suitable plan for achieving financial goals.
Moving Out of the Dorms Financial Counseling - offered for airmen wishing to move off base, this
appointment includes information on how to successfully budget for off base housing expenses. Currently
offered individually on an “as needed” basis.
Debt Management Classes
“Getting Out of Debt”/Credit Reports - a credit management class offered every other month. Participants
have the opportunity to use Power Pay www.powerpay.org, a computer software rapid debt reduction program.
Class instruction also includes information on credit reports: how to read it, who has access to it, how to get a copy
and how to correct inaccurate information. Class is offered quarterly.
Investment Classes
These seminars do not recommend any specific funds or investment firms.
“Investing Responsibly”- This basic investment class provides information about the benefits of long term
investments. Offered quarterly.
“Mastering the Fundamentals of Investing” – Learn the 7 essential rules to making your money grow! This
Level II investments class gives strategies that work! Offered quarterly.
“10 Frequently Asked Questions about Mutual Funds” – “Why do so many people invest in mutual funds?;
Which funds should I choose?; When is a good time to invest?” This seminar provides the answers to these and
other questions often asked about mutual funds. Offered quarterly.
Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) Overview - provides information on TSP for the uniformed services, including the
election process, contribution rules, limitations and types of funds. Briefings are typically provided as requested.

Military Saves Campaign
This is a DOD Financial Readiness Initiative. The Campaign is held annually (usually February).
It is a CFC-styled campaign in partnership with the Consumer Federation of America (CFA), OSD, banks, credit
unions and the services.
Members voluntarily pledge to set attainable financial goals with emphasis on:
Emergency Savings- Debt reduction
- Home buying
- Contributing to TSP, 401K and other investments
